Caravan and motorhome finance
Caravans, motorhomes, camper trailers and fifth wheelers, secured against the van and structured to a term that suits the asset.
Caravan and motorhome finance is secured against the van, which generally prices better than an unsecured personal loan of the same size. The security also means the lender cares about what you are buying: age, condition and type all affect the term available and which lenders will look at it.
One thing worth thinking about before you commit. A van is a depreciating asset financed over a long term, and it is common to owe more than it is worth for the middle years of the loan. That is not a reason to avoid it — it is a reason to be honest about how long you will actually keep it.
What it covers

Eligibility
What lenders look at
- You're 18 or over and an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- You have some regular income — from work, self-employment, superannuation, investments or a pension
- You're borrowing an amount you can service comfortably — most of our panel starts around $10,000
- You can comfortably meet the repayments alongside your existing commitments
Every lender on the panel weighs these differently, so none of it is a fixed cut-off — send the enquiry and we'll tell you honestly what is and isn't available. If money is already tight, the National Debt Helpline offers free, independent financial counselling, with nothing to sell you.

Common questions
Before you enquire
Does the age of the van matter?
Yes. Most lenders set a maximum age at the end of the loan term rather than at purchase, so a ten-year-old van on a seven-year term is assessed as a seventeen-year-old asset. That is often what shortens the term available.
Can I finance a private sale?
Yes, subject to a PPSR check confirming nothing is owing on the van, plus verification of the seller. Private sales are routine — they just involve a little more paperwork than a dealer purchase.
Do I need comprehensive insurance?
For secured finance, yes, and it must generally be held for the life of the loan. Lenders will usually want to be noted on the policy.
Can I finance a van I plan to live in full time?
It depends on the lender. Some treat full-time living differently because the van becomes your residence rather than a recreational asset. Tell us upfront and we will approach lenders who are comfortable with it rather than having an application declined late.
