Finance for the car, not just the deposit
Secured vehicle finance for new and used cars, from dealers or private sellers. Get your position confirmed before you start negotiating.
A car loan secured against the vehicle almost always prices better than borrowing the same amount unsecured. The lender holds an interest in the car until the loan is repaid, which reduces their risk and, in turn, your rate.
Knowing your borrowing position before you walk onto a lot changes the conversation. Dealer finance is convenient but rarely the sharpest number available, and it's worth having something to compare it against.
What it typically covers
- New vehicles from a licensed dealer
- Used vehicles, dealer or private sale
- Electric and hybrid vehicles
- Refinancing an existing car loan
- Motorcycles and recreational vehicles
- Balloon or residual structures where suitable
What you get from us
Secured pricing
Using the vehicle as security typically improves the rate compared with an unsecured loan.
Private sales handled
Buying privately is fine. We'll walk you through the checks lenders require.
Know your number first
Sort finance before you negotiate so you're comparing the dealer's offer, not accepting it.
Refinance considered
If you're mid-term on an expensive car loan, it's worth checking what else is available.
Eligibility
What lenders look at
- You're 18 or over and an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- You have some regular income — from work, self-employment, superannuation, investments or a pension
- You're borrowing an amount you can service comfortably — most of our panel starts around $10,000
- You can comfortably meet the repayments alongside your existing commitments
Every lender on the panel weighs these differently, so none of it is a fixed cut-off — send the enquiry and we'll tell you honestly what is and isn't available. If money is already tight, the National Debt Helpline offers free, independent financial counselling, with nothing to sell you.

Rates shown are the range available across our lender panel. The rate you are offered depends on your credit profile, income, the loan amount and term, and whether the loan is secured. Not every applicant will qualify for the minimum rate. All applications are subject to the lender's assessment and credit criteria.

Common questions
Before you enquire
Does the car's age matter?
Yes. Most lenders set a maximum vehicle age at the end of the loan term, commonly between 10 and 15 years. Older vehicles narrow the panel but don't rule finance out.
Can I buy from a private seller?
Yes. The lender will require a PPSR check to confirm the vehicle isn't encumbered, plus proof of the sale and the seller's details.
What is a balloon payment?
A lump sum owed at the end of the term. It lowers your monthly repayment but leaves a substantial amount to pay or refinance at the end. It suits some borrowers and not others — we'll be clear about the trade-off.
Do I need comprehensive insurance?
Secured vehicle loans almost always require comprehensive insurance to be held for the life of the loan.
